Pacaya Volcano Tour + Afternoon Spa
Combine our Pacaya Volcano Tour with an afternoon at a relaxing thermal spa whose waters are heated by the very same volcano you will have just hiked! We’ll pick you up at your hotel/lodging in a private shuttle or SUV, depending on the size of your group, to begin the approx 90-minute journey to the famed Pacaya Volcano situated southeast of La Antigua. Once we’ve arrived it’s roughly a 1.5-hour hike up this active “complex” volcano. While on our hike we will appreciate expansive views of La Antigua and Guatemala City and on a clear day, we may even see the Pacific Coast in the distance. Our local guide will stop at various places to share interesting facts about the flora and fauna, as well as the neighboring towns. Upon arriving at the summit, we’ll visit a small jewelry stand that sells beautiful items made by local artisans utilizing volcanic rock and ash from previous eruptions in 2010 and 2014. Here we will roast marshmallows over lava rock and enjoy a picnic lunch before beginning our descent.
Once we are back at the base we’ll hop in our vehicle and head to the nearby Santa Teresita spa for some well deserved R&R after your Pacaya Volcano Tour. Your Antigua spa package includes access to the exclusive thermal pool circuit and jacuzzi, a 50-minute massage, and a smoothie. There are also other spa options as well as many pools (hot and cold) to enjoy during your time here!
For those not up for the hike, horses can be rented at the base of Pacaya volcano for approximately $15 USD. However, please keep in mind that they don’t go on the lava fields so you there is still a small portion you’ll need to walk.
