Chichicastenango Market 1 Day Tour
Would you like to visit Chichicastenango market? After being picked up via private shuttle by your tour leader, we will begin our journey through Guatemala’s Altiplano as we make our way to one of Central America’s largest and most famous artisan markets in the town of Chichicastenango. We will start our day in Chichicastenango market where local vendors gather every Thursday and Sunday in the central part of town to offer a wide variety of goods such as fruits, vegetables, flowers, handicrafts, pottery, and even livestock. You can also taste some of the local specialties during your time in the market area. Our walking tour then continues to the Church of Santo Tomás, which dates back to 1540 AD. Here you will be able to see what’s known as syncretism: a mixture of the Mayan and Catholic religions. We will then visit the local cemetery, a colorful place where Maya rituals are still performed.
Our tour in Chichicastenango concludes with an incredible multi-course meal (included) with our friends at Proyecto Tux, where you will taste and learn about pre-hispanic cuisine, as well as modern-day agricultural issues and their adverse impact on local culture and the environment before we make the approximate 2.5 drive back to Antigua.

What to wear/pack:
We recommend wearing comfortable and breathable clothing and closed-toed shoes with a supportive sole. The sun can be quite strong as well so sunscreen and/or a hat are encouraged. Also, we recommend bringing cash with you since many vendors in Chichicastenango don’t take cards. Other useful items are an eco-friendly water bottle, sunglasses, and a camera!
